Y2K statements of accomplishment

CASA has sought Y2K statements of accomplishment from certain participants in the aviation industry ('Aviation Participants') detailing:

• whether they have drawn up inventories of computer and other date sensitive equipment and carried out Y2K assessments;
• work completed to replace or fix equipment at risk from the date rollover; and
• contingency plans to maintain safe aviation operations even if equipment or systems fail due to the Y2K problem.

The Aviation Participants involved are:

1. Air Operator Certificate holders: persons or organisations authorised to operate aircraft for the commercial carriage of passengers or freight
2. Certificate of Approval holders: persons or organisations authorised to carry out maintenance on aircraft; and
3. Aerodrome Licence holders: persons authorised to operate a licensed airport.

These aviation participants are also being asked to certify that they expect the safety of their operations to be maintained despite any Y2K disruptions.

The Aviation Participants in the list below have yet to provide CASA with a statement which explains the steps taken to maintain safety over the critical dates associated with Y2K or the Millennium Bug. While there is no information that suggests that the Aviation Participants on the list will be unsafe due to Y2K problems, CASA has received no information that they have taken steps to ensure they will be safe. CASA is therefore contacting these Aviation Participants to ensure they are ready for Y2K.

In addition to the Aviation Participants on the list there are four aviation participants who have not provided an accomplishment statement whose identity cannot be revealed by virtue of the Privacy Act 1988. These four individuals will be identified on the list on 14 December if regulatory action is taken against them.

Aviation Participants who cannot demonstrate their Y2K readiness to CASA will face regulatory action which could lead to suspension of their right to operate over critical Y2K periods.

* None of these airlines have plans to conduct services to Australia during critical Y2K periods. CASA and the Department of Transport and Regional Services are monitoring these airlines schedules to ensure no services operate in Australia over the Y2K critical periods, unless satisfactory evidence of Y2K preparedness is supplied.
