  • Week One
  • During the past week CASA hosted another safety seminar for pilots in the city with the usual theme on debating the "pros and cons" of how to fly and manage an aircraft. The only new item on the agenda, which was based on similar past meetings, is the concern over the Y2K "Millennium Bug"

An expensive 126 page glossy wire bound booklet issued by the authorities explains the problem and shows they are very concerned on this particular issue. To cover all contingencies, all operators of Airlines, Airports and Engineering workshops are required - prior to September 30 1999 - to fill out a "Statement of Accomplishment" based on a report card style guide which was highlighted in the booklet

To the warbird enthusiast, any WWII aircraft is almost worth it's weight in gold, so just imagine the pleasure and enjoyment for a collector at having the opportunity to obtain a new warbird

One such warbird due shortly to this airfield is a new (yes, new!) Yak-3 Russian fighter powered by an American Allison V-1710 12 cylinder liquid cooled supercharged engine developing around 1200 hp at 3000 rpm

    Friday 2nd
    Airport Drama

The afternoon "smoko" break was interrupted to-day when a Lancair 2 seater homebuilt aircraft tried to emulate the Ansett 747 Jumbo incident at Sydney airport of a few years back when it was unable to extend it's nose wheel and landed with the wheel still retracted

After waiting for the rather excessive show of emergency vehicles to arrive the experienced pilot carried out a successful and minimum damage landing on runway 28L
