Week Four AF Aircraft in near WA Border Mishap
The Aero Club and staff continue to occupy the airfield's top news position

The Piper Twin Comanche mentioned in the local news media last week as having a "wheels-up" landing at a far outback airstrip was flown by the owner who also happened to be one of the Aero Club's senior female Instructors

The PA30 experienced a series of engine and airframe "gremlins" resulting in another expensive repair bill directly after the installation of one newly overhauled engine

The aircraft had experienced an engine failure in the "middle of nowhere" and - after the installation of the "new" engine - was on the first leg of the return flight to Archerfield when the "old" engine started to discharge oil and was feathered

  • The aircraft landed shortly after at a remote airstrip where the undercarriage also created another drama and failed to extend after application of both the normal and emergency procedures

  • The very experienced pilot was able to land the aircraft successfully with both engines fully feathered
