Build-at-Home Spacecraft

Space 'Shuttle' in Lounge Room

Click to enlargeLatest spacecraft - called the "Kitten" - is a kit assembled aircraft and can be built at home just like any other homebuilt aircraft so the promoters advise the only difference is that this machine is designed to go into (outer) space!

Dr Hill one of the promoters of the concept is quoted as saying "We have made the kit to be fairly simple so that a good mechanic would be able to assemble it in about 2000 hours"

So there you are - the latest 'gadget' for the mechanically minded to have a crack at!

Kitten developers believe the craft will be purchased by extreme sports enthusiasts and universities seeking to conduct zero-gravity experiments

    * The Kitten is the latest entrant in the X-Prize competition which offers $US10 million to the first private organization to launch successfully a reusable vehicle at least 100km into space

CFFC president James Hill said that "with a running cost of $US5000 per flight it is relatively inexpensive when compared to the cost of leasing other zero-gravity rockets"

News from around Archerfield

Click to enlargeThe Archerfield based Brisbane Flying Group - owner of three Grumman Tigers - had one of their cats  'fall over' at Fraser Island's Orchid Beach airstrip Friday September 15

The News Desk has been informed that the Tiger appears to be a 'write-off' and that there were no reported injuries

News Desk Comment

One wonders if this accident would have occurred if the pilot had read the 'Old Dog Safety Hints' within these pages prior to departure!
