After CASA cleared Ansett Airlines Mk11 for operation in what has to be a world record time, the big jets became airborne again Saturday September 29th

The OZ Government went guarantor for ticket sales over the next 12 weeks, allowing the administrators of the defunct Airline to get the jets flying again

In the USA two Air Force F-16s were scrambled from Edwards Air Force Base to escort an Air Canada Boeing 767 airliner into Los Angeles airport after a mid-air drama

This was on the day USA's President Bush gave the military the authority to shoot down hijacked passenger jets!

Indian MiG-21 hits Houses

September 27: 
Click to enlarge A 1960's designed Russian MiG-21 jet fighter operated by the Indian Air Force is reported as having crashed into a row of houses in the northern Indian state of Punjab causing a number of injuries and one fatality

News reports indicate that a woman in one of the houses hit by the disabled fighter died instantly and her young son critically injured

Southport Jabiru Fatality

 September 29: 
Click to enlarge A Rotax powered two seat Jabiru aircraft impacted the ground during final approach to the privately operated Southport airstrip at around 1000hrs Saturday morning

It appears there may have been a strong wind sheer affect on short final that contributed to the accident

Heavies Rescued in OZ

 September 22: 
Aviation insurers around the world have reduced war risk cover on heavies to an unacceptable level after the USA terrorist attacks

The Federal Government has decided to provide third party insurance cover with a promise to underwrite damages claims from future acts of war, terrorism or hijacking to a limit of $US5 billion ($A10.2 billion) with any OZ registered aircraft of more than 15 seats

Poof that a Lightie ( < 15 seats ) is NOT a terrorist tool !

C172 Down in Gippsland

 September 28: 
A 4 seat Cessna 172 appears to have had an engine failure and forced landed in a paddock near the La Trobe Regional Airport in Traralgon, Victoria with the loss of life

Initial media reports indicate the male pilot was the only occupant in the Cessna which impacted the ground around 1030hrs Friday morning
