 January 15 
The Queensland pilot of a helicopter, involved in bush fire water bombing in the Namadgi National Park near Canberra, is in a serious condition in hospital after the helicopter he was operating went into the Bendora Dam

ACT Minister Jon Stanhope"ACT Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope on a fire reconnaissance flight in another helicopter, stripped off and dived into the dam, helping to rescue the pilot"

F-28 Passenger Jet Lost in Peru

 January 10 
A Fokker F-28 flying in Peru with 46 passengers and crew on board hit the side of a mountain about 650 kilometres north of the capital Lima

Beech 1900 Elevator Malfunction

 January 11 
In the USA a Beech 1900 carrying 19 passengers and 2 crew crashed departing the Charlotte Douglas airport

Media reports indicate that the aircraft entered a steep climb shortly after take-off, it then stalled and finished up hitting the side of a hangar during the recovery

The pilot, Katie Leslie, contacted the tower to indicate an emergency but the exact nature was not established before contact was lost

Maintenance had been carried out to the elevator trim mechanism prior to departure

75 Lost in Turkish RJ-100

 January 10 
A British Aerospace RJ-100 passenger jet operated by Turkish Airlines has crashed while attempting to land in heavy fog at the Diyarbakir airport in Turkey

Media reports indicate that only 5 passengers survived after the aircraft impacted the ground and broke in two "about 40 metres from the edge of the airport"
