Two Historic Aircraft Lost

 July 11 
In the UK a former Royal Navy Fairey Firefly crashed during aerobatics at an air-show, and in the USA a twin-engine German HE-111 Heinkel bomber from the Airpower Heritage Museum in Texas enroute to an air-show in Montana got into difficulties and crashed

Both machines were the last of their type flying

Sudan B-737 Lost with 116 POB

 July 8 
Click for enlarged view A Sudanese Boeing 737 departing Port Sudan for Khartoum slammed into a hillside after the pilot reported a problem and turned back for an emergency landing

Aero-News Quote of the Day

"The accident has been caused by the lack of spare parts. There are no spare parts to service Boeings in Sudan because of the American embargo... This plane had not been serviced for 5 or 6 years.."

A small boy was the sole survivor amongst the 116 passengers and crew onboard the doomed aircraft

Tiger Moth's Dip in Ocean

 July 8 
A DH-82A Tiger Moth ended-up in the sea on the western side of Fraser Island around 1600hrs. after an apparent engine failure, the pilot and his male passenger were rescued uninjured by local power boat operators

" ..two males ..taken to the mainland
     (they) ..suffered no serious injuries"

Parachute Sabotage in UK

 July 8 
Media reports have the police in the UK probing the death of a young skydiver who plunged 3900 metres to his death after both his main and reserve parachutes failed to deploy correctly

"It is an absolute fact that both parachutes were deliberately tampered with and on the basis of that, we have to strongly suspect that murder was the motive"

Indications suggest that the parachute webbing had been cut after it was packed and stored a few days prior
