January 20  -  Update on DHL A300 Freighter
The A300 was hit at 8000ft lost ALL hydraulics and had no flight controls - it carried out a missed approach using only engine thrust on first landing attempt and unable to steer - it veered off the runway after landing

"The crew obviously did a fantastic job in getting the aircraft back on to the ground and one can only assume that it was most fortunate that they were not aware of the state of the wing as they could not see it from the cockpit ...the projectile entered Tank 1A - which was full of fuel - and after it ignited proceeded to burn away at the spar.."

The Cairns based Flightship Ground Effect company has gone into liquidation and all the unfinished aircraft (3 units) are to be offered for sale at the receivers auction on Tuesday February 3 - 2004

Included in the sale is the "historic" aircraft Air Fish 3 along with stock and plant and equipment

The company was featured in these pages back in May 2002 when it started up in business in the FNQ tourist capital
