Media reports have an aged couple in their late 70s with an engine failure in their rare aircraft (incorrectly reported as a Cessna) departing the Western Port airstrip at Tyabb on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria

"..when paramedics arrived the plane was upside down and badly damaged but the couple had escaped the wreckage"

Power-lines Snare Stolen C172

March 4 
In the USA a thief pinched a C172 from a hangar at Brazoria County Airport near Houston Texas took-off in fog and finished up crashing into power lines less than two miles from the departure runway

"The thief left the Cessna in a broken heap of metal on the ground and disappeared"

He had never flown an airplane before ...and had been drinking for the last 4 days prior celebrating his 21st birthday...!

Police said; "..the suspect was just taxiing around in the C172 when he decided to take-off ...he knew the airport layout because he had performed community service there after a previous arrest"
