All Unattended Light Aircraft to be Secured against Unlawful Interference

February 15
Security is becoming a big issue for aircraft owners as the Government legislates to have all light aircraft "secured" even when parked for any length of time at a "secure" airport

Authorities are suggesting one method would be to prohibit the movement of a throttle or mixture control by attaching a simple locking device secured with padlocks

"All locks used for the security of prescribed aircraft are to comply with Australian Standard: AS 4145.4-2002 Locksets – Padlocks"

A notice stating the aircraft has been secured must be displayed and made visible to passing "traffic"

"Under the regulations the operator of an aircraft has committed an offence if the aircraft is covered and displays such a notice but is not fitted with an anti-theft device, or if the aircraft is covered and does not display such a notice"
