Cessna C208 Turbine Owner Charged $78,900 for Service

Light Aircraft Maintenance
As an avid reader of these news pages you would be aware that all light aircraft require regular maintenance checks to maintain 'serviceability'

Australia has a declining private light aircraft sector compared to the '70's and '80's and most maintenance shops are now looking for work especially at major airports where movement charges have increased to a point some owners take their aircraft elsewhere for servicing

It's well known fact for light aircraft owners that when maintenance workshops become 'quiet' the COST of the service goes UP - with no change to the 'serviceability' characteristics of their aircraft

Owners of most single and smaller twin engine aircraft expect to pay around $1,000 for an 'inspection' and return to service by the issue of a Maintenance Release - some may exceed $10,000 as a result of 'maintenance required as result of the inspection' - most MR's issued for private aircraft last the full year or for the next 100 hours of flying time

If you think that's a little on the high side compared to other forms of motor vehicle servicing consider Dick Smith's dilemma (and amazement) when he was hit for a bill of almost $79,000.00 for a non-critical service of his single-engine turbine-powered 'near new' Cessna recently

"It always happens when you least expect it"

Over the years the News Desk has recorded activity associated mainly with general aviation aircraft and pilots that fly them - along with a smattering of 'heavy' and military aircraft that were of interest and to balance the reporting view of this light aircraft based weekly production of an Aviation News Digest

Of all the information that flows over the news desk during a normal working week one thing is for sure - an image can depict a suspended moment in time that sometimes the written word or words cannot express

One such image was received recently titled 'DUCK!' - the pilot and place unrecorded for this unique capture of time
