 OZ International Airshow at Avalon Captures Media Interest
 Wide Coverage Commits Government to Airshow Support to 2015

March 20
The Avalon air-show in Victoria attracted full media coverage occupying the prime-time news slot and highlighting the fact that a number of air-show participants were from overseas and not OZ locals as expected
 


A wing-walking duo from the USA amazed the media when they mentioned that during the flight sequence a parachute was not worn by the "walker"
 
It was considered dangerous to have one as it might inadvertently deploy causing a major disaster perhaps even removing the tail-plane

Features also included night aerobatic flights with ultralights and gliders lighting up the sky with a dazzling light show
 
The OZ military also featured in the coverage with the F/A-18 celebrating the fact that it has been 20 years since the Hornet entered service for the RAAF

Russian aerobatic pilot Jurgis Kairys demonstrated why he and his Su-31 are the best air-show combination in the world
 
The 53-year-old pilot manoeuvred the aircraft so that it flew sideways at about 100ft AGL completely dumbfounding many a pilot who believed only helicopters were capable of sideways flight

Russian An-24 Airliner Down with a Loss of 28 Lives - 24 Survive

March 17
A Russian An-24 with 45 LUKOIL workers and 4 crew members en-route from Usisk in the Komi Republic crashed and caught fire after a wing clipped the ground landing at Barandei in the Nenets autonomous region

 
Media reports have 24 passengers and crew surviving - the captain lost his life in the accident
 
There has been reports that the tail-plane dislodged causing the aircraft to enter a roll on very short final
