OZ's Only Flying 2-Seat Hawker Hunter Lands with Mains Retracted

November 1 2005
The day sporting history was made - it was a horse race called the Melbourne Cup that captured the nation's attention but back at Maroochydore it was a different story - it was an emergency landing at the airport of a classic warbird aircraft

The x-Archerfield machine now operates adventure flights out of a new base on the Sunshine Coast

Owner/pilot of the only 2 seat Hawker Hunter fighter jet in OZ - David Curry - was unable to fully extend the main undercarriage wheel(s) and was forced to carry out a successful nose-wheel only landing on the active runway veering off towards the end to allow the machine to slow down

With no main wheels there are no brakes to apply!
