Political Lobbying Saves Gatton College Airstrip from Closure

December 7  2006
In August 2006 the News Desk reported on the impending closure of the Lockyer Valley Flying Club's airstrip based on the campus of the University of Queensland at Gatton

The airstrip was established in 1966 as a training ground for 'outback' college students interested in obtaining a private pilot's licence "on campus"

Reports filtering across the News Desk suggest the closure has now been deferred "indefinitely"?

News Desk Comment
The Flying Club members voiced their objection to the closure to all levels of Government and politicians of all political persuasions over many months so-much-so it appears that keeping the strip open is far easier for the bureaucracy to manage than trying to close it!

The airstrip was also recognised as a necessity for any emergency situation that may arise within the college grounds or nearby Gatton township
