Tragic End to Military Style Adventure Joy-Flight in Strikemaster
Birthday Present Flight Ends in Disaster for 50-Year-Old

October 5  2006
An ex-RAF fighter pilot and owner of Jet Fighter Flights - Nick Costin - along with his joy-flight passenger were killed when their ex-military Strikemaster training jet they were in had an in-flight break-up shortly after departing Bathurst

The BAC 167 Strikemaster was based at Bathurst airport and featured the paying passenger wearing a "Top Gun" flying suit with helmet and oxygen mask - all recorded on video "Tom Cruise" style

Costin purchased 3 Strikemasters from Singapore and New Zealand in the 90's and charged $2095 for a 25-minute joy flight featuring aerobatics and air combat manoeuvring with simulated weapons release

News Desk Comment

X-Military aircraft do not comply in the same manner as the obligatory regulations required for light aircraft operations (exceptions experimental-homebuilt) CASA allows joy-flights in x-military machines as long as the passenger signs a waiver outlining the risks involved
