  WEEK TWO
Long Time Flying School at Archerfield Packs-Up and Leaves
Arena's 30 Year Main Terminal Building Area Occupation Ends

September 13  2006
Arena Aviation one of Archerfield's "older" flying training schools has transferred it's complete operation from Archerfield to north side Redcliffe

Commenced by Gordon Bradberry around 30 years ago as 'Air Training Centre' the flying school soon developed into one of the more sort after professional pilot training schools when it tied in with the local Griffith University in offering a "Degree" for the commercial orientated pilot seeking a career in the airline industry

News Desk Comment
Gordon erected the Arena buildings on leased ground at a time when the OZ Government "owned" the airport - when the ground lease expired it was normally renewed without attracting costs that were beyond normal expectations

In the late 80's the airport was 'sold' to a government 'quango' who it turn were able to offer control of the airport to the highest bidder a few years later - this 'new' operator is now refusing to renew ground leases as they expire turning any privately erected building left on site as "airport property" thus attracting a much higher 'commercial' rental charge
