Cessna 210 Retractable in Wheels-Up Landing at Atherton in FNQ

QLD Police advise that a Cessna 210 Centurion II has made an emergency landing at Atherton airport after the pilot was unable to lower the landing gear

 
The 49 year-old pilot and his two passengers all escaped injury - the six-seat single-engine aircraft sustained minor damage to the fuselage underbelly

R-44 Professional Pilot Lost Departing Melbourne's Pier 35 Helipad

A 4-seat Robertson R-44 helicopter with two experienced pilots on board has crashed at the mouth of the Yarra River around 1900hrs claiming the life of the pilot - the passenger/pilot was able to extricate himself and was rescued by personnel from Melbourne's Leisure Boating Club

 
Media reports indicate the helicopter sustained a rotor-stall whilst departing Melbourne's Pier 35 area - "When he took off he went into a steep ascent and as he was doing this he tried to turn to avoid the buildings ...It lost lift and fell down sideways and hit the water"

Ultralight Pilot and Passenger Escape after Dunking in Dam in FNQ

Two 39 year-old men from Cairns escaped unharmed after the ultralight aircraft they were in crashed into Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tableland in Far North QLD and sank

 
The ultralight was flying over the lake when it descended into the water - "They were able to free themselves from the aircraft and were collected by people in boats nearby"

Low-Time Private Pilot Successful Emergency Landing in Beech A36

12-month 100-hour Gin Gin citrus farmer pilot - Michael McMahon - displayed his newly acquired flying skills by successfully carrying out a forced landing into a paddock west of Maleny on QLD's Sunshine Coast after an apparent engine problem - dodging powerlines in the process

 
The single-engine six-seater Beech had departed Archerfield a short time earlier when the engine developed a mechanical problem

Pilot quote ...“I didn’t see those two powerlines until it was very late - I went over one and under the other”

West OZ Ultralight Prang Claims Two Experienced Recreational Pilots

December 21  2007
A 50-year-old male from Bindoon and a 58-year-old High Wycombe resident - both licenced pilots - lost their lives when the ultralight aircraft they were in collided with the ground in a state forest area near Bindoon 87 km north of Perth

 
WA Police reported the accident was "not-survivable" - the OZ Recreation Aircraft Authority is expected to conduct an investigation into the "high-impact collision"
