Pilot Shortage Proof - Oze Election Campaign Hires Overseas Aircraft and Pilots

The 2007 election campaign currently under way in OZ has highlighted the looming worldwide pilot shortage

Campaign organisers were forced to hire overseas aircraft and crews after "discovering" there was a chronic shortage of Australian charter planes

 
Government campaign followers will be flown around in a Croatian aircraft in the next few days ....meanwhile

The opposition campaign followers were introduced to a French jet complete with French flight staff yesterday - what es zee "Slippery Dip"? - La glissière d'évacuation ...oui!

Regional Express (Rex) has suspended all flights on its only Queensland route because of pilot shortages

RPT flights between Brisbane - Maryborough commenced only a month ago are now suspended until further notice

The current pilot shortage is the direct result of OZ Government policy "depressing" the light aircraft industry around 20 years ago which at the time was turning out more pilots than the industry was capable of employing

Archerfield Light Aircraft Emergency Attracts the Best in the Business

Emergency services were called out to Archerfield airport around 1000hrs to-day after a pilot reported trouble with his aircraft's retractable landing gear - it appeared to be "stuck"

Indications suggested the undercarriage had failed to extend properly - there was no "gear down" light

 
Three Queensland Fire and Rescue vehicles rushed to the scene with specialised cutting equipment ready to respond to any catastrophe that may occur when the aircraft landed

The as-yet-unidentified aircraft landed successfully a short time later ....the gathering media appeared disappointed

—•—  Update 7:05 PM 6/11/2007 - Darwin Airport Emergency Delays Passenger Jets  —•—

A charted single-engine Cessna retractable returning from one of the remote communities it services had an undercarriage leg fail shortly after touchdown at Darwin

The three persons on board were uninjured and the aircraft was able to taxi away from the accident site under it's own steam after the leg was extended and locked into place
