Airservices to Shut Down 27 VHF Aviation Repeaters in OZ - Dick Smith NOT HAPPY

Dick Smith - previously a chairman of CASA - is so concerned about Airservices intention to shut down all Flightwatch VHF repeaters across OZ that he has issued a legal challenge and is prepared to take the matter to the Federal Court

 
Dick wants all Flightwatch frequencies to remain "as-is" and not be absorbed into ATC services until a survey is conducted and for Airservices to issue a NOTAM advising that all Flightwatch Services will remain in place until further notice

German Tourists Killed in Outback - Cessna Snares Wire on World's Longest Runway

November 11  2007
Three German nationals lost their lives when the Cessna they were in collected a wire strung across the Stuart Highway north of Elliott in the NT

The C172 was one of a group of three on Safari of the OZe outback and had departed originally from Western OZ

 
Police and media reports have the aircraft trying to carry out an emergency landing when it struck the wire

There has been no suggestion of low flying for a better view of the outback

Gyrocopter Pilot Training Exercise at Echuca Turns Tragic for Instructor and Student

A 50-year-old man has died in Victoria's Alfred hospital after the gyrocopter he was travelling in crashed and burst into flames at Echuca airport during a pilot training exercise

 
A 58-year-old man who was also on board the gyrocopter remains in a critical condition in hospital suffering from severe burns

Engine Failure during Take-Off in Boeing 737 at South Africa's Cape Town Airport

A South African Nationwide Boeing 737 departing Cape Town with 106 passengers on board lost an engine on take-off but was able to return and land successfully

 
There was only one small problem... the starboard engine had actually fallen-off (possibly as a result of a bird strike) with debris left lying on the active runway...
