Qantas B747 Passenger Jet in Explosive Decompression Emergency

The Qantas Boeing 747 was enroute from London to Melbourne via Hong Kong when it experienced an explosive decompression cruising at 29,000 feet around 200 nautical miles from Manila ...oxygen masks deployed and an emergency descent initiated to 10,000 feet - it then diverted to Manila landing without further incident - all 365 passengers and crew disembarked normally

There was a gaping hole in the fuselage about 3 metres in diameter adjacent to the starboard wing root

Cabin flooring had given way exposing the cargo bay and a section of the ceiling had also collapsed - TV images suggest an explosive device or severe corrosion may be the culprit
