A light aircraft has crashed in the Far North of Queensland near Ethridge River on Abingdon Station in the Georgetown area - the pilot - the only person on board the 6-place single - did not survive

 
The aircraft - understood to be Cessna 210 - appears to have 'ditched' into a dry river-bed which set off the impact-activated emergency locator transmitter alerting the search and rescue authorities in Canberra
