HELICOPTER PRANG IN WEST VIC CLAIMS LIFE OF YOUNG PILOT

OZ media have reported on a helicopter crash in Victoria's far west about 25 kilometres west of Edenhope near the South OZ border that has killed the pilot

The helicopter apparently struck power-lines on the Casterton-Naracoorte Road - the pilot aged in his late 20's was from Mt Gambier and the only person on board

TASSIE HOME-BUILT AIRCRAFT CRASH AT LAUNCESTION INJURES PILOT

The 62 year-old pilot of single-seat Monnett Waiex was seriously injured after his home-built ultralight crashed at Launceston airport in Tasmania late yesterday after an apparent engine failure shortly after take-off

Latest reports have the pilot in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit of the Launceston General Hospital

BEACHGOERS RESCUE PIPER SUPER-CUB ON QLD's SUNSHINE COAST

A Piper Super-Cub with the owner and a passenger on board ended up in the surf after the engine malfunctioned over Caloundra's Shelley Beach on the Sunshine Coast

The Cub was towing an advertising banner at the time - both occupants were able to extract themselves uninjured from the inverted aircraft

USA's NTSB RECOMMENDS GROUNDING OF ZODIAC CH-601XL AIRCRAFT

An urgent recommendation to the FAA has been issued by the NTSB to prohibit further flight of Zodiac CH-601XL ultralights until they can determine that the aircraft is no longer susceptible to aerodynamic flutter

Aerodynamic flutter of the aircraft's controls can lead to catastrophic structural failure with the aircraft breaking up in flight - survival impossible

PIPER CHIEFTAIN IN EMERGENCY LANDING AT OAKEY AIR BASE

A Piper Chieftain with six persons onboard made a safe belly-landing late yesterday at Oakey airport west of Archerfield after a layer of fire-suppressant foam was laid on the runway

The female pilot was forced to declare an emergency after the undercarriage failed to extend - Oakey airport is shared by both civilian and military operators
