 NT Station Aircraft Damaged in Forced Landing in Remote Outback 


A Cessna - type not identified but thought to be a C172 - made a forced landing on a remote station 40 kilometres east of Elliott

The single-engine aircraft was on a stock inspection run at Newcastle Station when it experienced mechanical problems

The forced landing injured the 35-year-old passenger who needed stitches for a head wound - the 34-year-old pilot was uninjured

"Emergency services found the plane at about seven o'clock last night and airlifted the men to Elliott.."

 Pilot Lost in PA-28 Accident in Flooded FNQ Channel Country 


A 4-seat Piper Cherokee - en-route from Normanton to Mt Isa with only the pilot on board - was reported missing yesterday after it failed to arrive at it's Isa destination

"We believe there were storms around about the time he was leaving Normanton Airport"

The wreckage of the aircraft was located on cattle country near Donners Hill Station

A rescue helicopter landed near the wreck in rugged bushland approximately 100 kilometres south of Normanton

"The Mount Isa local - believed to be in his mid-50s - had been undertaking insurance assessments of flood-damaged businesses in Normanton"

 'Pip' Borrman - Australia's Top Aerobatic Pilot - Killed in Crash 


The pilot killed in an aircraft crash at Shepparton in north-east Victoria to-day is reported in media to be renowned stunt pilot Peter 'Pip' Borrman - "He took off and it sounded like he had an engine malfunction. There was a big backfire then it went all quiet" - the single-seat 450hp Pitts Samson replica impacted the ground pulling out of a loop and caught fire

The internationally recognized top aerobatic pilot was due to perform at the Avalon Airshow in 12 days time

Pip was one of only two in OZ with authorised 'Ground Level Waivers' allowing aerobatics to be performed at or from ground level up

 Highlight of News Desk Report on Archerfield from Eleven Years Ago 


Interesting to reflect on the changing pace and tough economic times ahead for Archerfield - around 30 years ago Archerfield was so busy with the comings and goings of aircraft the control tower was inundated with calls from the local populace about the noise generated by the number of light aircraft flying into and out-of the airfield
