Three people have been taken to the Frankston Hospital after they were injured in a light aircraft crash at Tyabb on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula south-east of Melbourne

The aircraft was apparently hit by a gust of wind on landing and ran off the end of the runway - "The front of the plane has been badly damaged"

A single-engine Piper Cherokee with 4 persons on board clipped trees departing the Mittagong Airport just before noon yesterday forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in a nearby vineyard - all on board suffered only minor injuries and were taken to Bowral hospital for observation

A 44-year-old Cloud 9 operated Cessna C185 floatplane with 5-persons on board struck a sandbank during take-off from Tipplers Passage on South Stradbroke Island and ended up inverted in shallow water - two persons sustained significant injuries and were airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter

The Evans Head X-military (of WW2 vintage) aerodrome is playing host yet again to the "Great Eastern Fly-in" this week-end inviting all those interested in light aircraft and associated disciplines to attend - there is no charge for admission
