PASSENGERS LIVES AT RISK AFTER CASA FAILS TO RAMP-CHECK QANTAS

The light aircraft industry has - as one of it's necessary operational requirements - the dreaded "ramp-check" where the weight and balance and paperwork associated with the flight including pilot licences are perused by the OZ Government Authority CASA

Whilst it's time consuming for the pilot and passengers having to wait for the inspection to be carried out - and this includes ultralights - apparently the system of 'ramp-checking' heavies just does not exist

Recently a new Qantas Airbus A380 on a flight from Sydney to Hong Kong was found to be over the designed maximum take-off weight by almost a tonne AND it continued on for another 10 flights before the error was 'discovered' by a responsible person who certified the A380 as unserviceable
