HOME-BUILT GYROCOPTER CRASH AT MOUNT SYLVIA CLAIMS LIFE OF PILOT

The pilot of a gyrocopter has lost his life after the home-made rotary-wing he was flying crashed in unknown circumstances south of Gatton in QLD

"Police said the home-made gyrocopter crashed at Mount Sylvia near Gatton"
The crash started a small grass fire that was extinguished by emergency services

PILOT INJURED IN HOME-BUILT CRASH LANDING AT MARCOOLA AIRPORT

A 30-year-old female pilot of an unknown home-built was injured after the aircraft she was flying apparently stalled and crashed on landing at the Sunshine Coast airport

"...crashed on the runway while the pilot was trying to land ...was taken to Nambour Hospital with minor injuries and was in a stable condition"

PIPER NAVAJO IN SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY LANDING AT MOORABBIN

The pilot of a PA-31 Piper Navajo was forced to make an emergency landing at Moorabbin when the nose-wheel turned sideways after undercarriage extension

"Firefighters laid down foam on the runway as a precautionary measure
...landed safely
...and taxied away under its own power"

CASA DRAFT TO RESTRICT USE OF JABIRU ENGINE AFTER SEVERAL FAILURES

CASA has implemented a draft proposal to try and resolve issues after numerous Jabiru engine failures in a variety of aircraft
Some of the proposals are:-
1. only permit operations by day under VFR
4. prohibit the carriage of passengers
5. prohibit the use by solo student pilots

"CASA is responding to a high, and increasing, rate of engine failures among aircraft that are powered by engines manufactured by, or under licence from, Jabiru Aircraft Pty Ltd"
Closing date for comment is Thursday 20 November 2014 (refer Media Report)
