RETIRED AIRLINE PILOT SURVIVES KIT-BUILT VANS RV-7A TAKE-OFF CRASH IN SA

A 50-year-old retired Cathay-Pacific airline captain - Steve Nelson - has survived a fiery crash of his homebuilt Vans RV-7A kit-aircraft he was flying after the engine failed in the two-seater shortly after take-off at Gawler airport in South OZ

 "...the plane appeared to take off and climb normally to about 50m before sustaining engine failure"
"The pilot tried to get back on the runway and he was that low when he turned that it just hit the ground"
