A 'mature-age' ultralight pilot has been killed after the Hughes Lightwing aircraft he was flying impacted the ground after an apparent engine failure followed by a loss of control during the 'turn-back' departing Woodstock airstrip S-W of Townsville

"The aircraft was just taking off, it's had some difficulties and tried to turn back to the airstrip and hasn't made it"

The pilot was the only person on board
