Action during the closing days of last month saw another aircraft auction take place on the 'field at "high noon" Saturday..

The C172 and C175 that were offered sold for reasonable sums but the Hughes 300D and the PA28-140 were passed in

. . . . . . . the auction was the end result of failed air charter and flying school business based at Hervey Bay

. . . . . . with the Aussie dollar at it's lowest in history these aircraft must represent a bargain for someone, somewhere!

A rare single engine aircraft paying a visit to the 'Field to day was an USA registered, turbine powered, Pilatus Porter

Meanwhile the airside action during the past week has been a little subdued, mainly as a result of the "not so good" weather

. . . . . . . not so long ago, these turbine porters were used by the army for troop transport and civil registered units were almost non-existent here in OZ

. . . . . . .and the news desk area was even more subdued, mainly due to circumstances beyond one's control!

As mentioned last month, the CFI of Southern Skies has finally made the move to Gil Layt's Flying School on Monday last

And the main terminal building public waiting lounge has been "decorated" with new warning signs advising passengers to wait for the pilot before venturing onto the tarmac

. . . . . . . of interest also via the "grapevine" is the gossip that some of the flying schools on the 'field will challenge the cost of the "new" tower charges.

. . . . . . . it's ironical that "they" who wanted the service, now don't want to pay!

Airside action during the week remains "subdued", however "groundside" there continues to be "action a plenty"

Along with the ever-changing personnel at the flying schools, another Instructor has decided to try something different and after a lot of soul searching and "hard work", he is off the U.S.A. after a "cheery send-off" party this afternoon

. . . . . . . Kelvie Lowry is departing for New York where he expects to gain employment as a pilot and to "tie the knot" with girlfriend Heidi

. . . . . . . not only is our low dollar creating an export bonanza for aircraft it looks like it is affecting our qualified personnel as well!
